Group therapy
Group therapy is more than just a support group. Support groups usually rally around a specific issue and provide the space for participants to encourage, comfort, and exchange advice with one another. While support groups are immensely helpful for many people, group therapy is something different.
Group therapy is psychotherapy in a group format. It typically consists of 60-90 minutes of interactive engagement among three or more peers from all walks of life. Unlike support groups, participants in group therapy have non-standardized issues that bring them to therapy. As a group member, group therapy offers an amazing opportunity for you to gain clarity into your problems through your interactions with others in the group. In other words, you learn about yourself through how you relate to other group members.
Group therapy is beneficial for everyone, even for people who are already in individual therapy. It is a particularly good fit for people who are looking for mental health help on a tight budget.
